Frequently asked questions
Store your logs in a dry, well-ventilated area, ideally off the ground and protected from rain. A log store with open sides and a solid roof works best. Avoid covering logs completely with tarpaulin, as this can trap moisture.
No — burning green or unseasoned wood creates excess smoke, tar build-up, and increases the risk of chimney fires. It’s also inefficient and often illegal under local clean air regulations. Always use dry, seasoned or kiln-dried logs.
Kiln-dried logs are dried in a controlled environment, reducing their moisture content to below 20%. This means:
• Better burning performance
• Less smoke and creosote
• Easier to light
• More heat output
All of our hardwood logs are Woodsure Ready to Burn certified.
Logs should have a moisture content below 20%. All M&C Firewood logs are kiln-dried and tested to meet this standard.
